Reflections Throughout the Year — Why do we set up New Year Resolutions?

As much as we like to complain January is the longest month, the dragging kind, I think we can all agree every year passes faster, year after year. Looking back and reflecting on all my current achievements, I can’t believe we are already in November. Getting ready, yet for another Christmas.

Year after year is always the same thing, new year resolutions. It made me wonder why we do it, every year. Is there a point in setting up New Year goals? Do we reflect at any point? Or do we give up halfway through the year?

Let's give these questions a moment to think about.

Since this is a tradition across the globe, setting up New Year resolutions, everyone participates in it. Research has shown the reason why many people do this is because the beginning of every year brings a chance to start over, a blank slate.

For most, that go through their new goals, it is a perfect way of setting up the big and small goals throughout the year to stay efficient and motivated. After all, we all have a goal or a dream.

I don’t usually like to participate in it because my goals are a little high fetched, however this year I had some simple goals I set that were easily achievable. I have completed a theory test and have gotten my learners permit. I finished and published a book. I have read more books this year than last year. I also promised myself to start speaking up to management and being more vocal of what I want so I don’t leave considering they need me.

While some things weren’t on this list, I can say with confidence I have reached all my goals.

Lately I have been reflecting on all of my achievments this year and while I am happy, and feeling proud of everything I accomplished it helped me set my mind for next year.

Reflection is needed throughout the year, not only once a year. It is important to stay on track. For instance, during each of my reflections I always come to the same conclusion. Customer support is no longer working for me, it is a mental battle and its exhausting. Working for the companies that will make your health second and prioritize work first are the ones to avoid.
